Without a doubt the worst trade in baseball was the Boston Red Sox trading the "Babe" to the Yankees. Without a doubt the worst trading organization has got to be the Houston Astros! How many outstanding players have they traded only to get mediocre prospects? Last year they traded Lance Berkman who helped the Yankees reach the playoffs and now is with the Cardinals! He just burned them on a three run homer... Houston, you need a baseball owner, not a grocery store trucker...
Is there a stat for the team that leaves the most runners on base? I'm willing to bet the Astros are the all-time leader!
I was bemoaning the awful winds and lack of rain here in the oil garden when I saw the video of the destruction and devastation left by the tornados. It isn't that bad here after all.
I was reminded this afternoon that love and happiness are based more on the choices we make than on the things that happen to us. I was sharing that with a young couple in a pre-marital counseling session when I realized that I needed to be reminded of that! It is interesting how Yahweh does that!
Yesterday was Professional Assistant's Day. It used to be "Secretary's Day", but it has morphed into what it is. This is the first church that I have served that has a "Professional Assistant" and I am truly blessed by her! I think I have above average administrative / management / leadership skills, but having her makes me more efficient. I'm very grateful to work with Judy Gaines!
So the birth certificate has been released... So what! I agree with the President (and probably the only thing that I agree with him on) is that we have much more important things to deal with!
Rev David Wilkerson was killed in a car wreck this week. He is best known for his outreach to the street gangs in New York. I read "Run Baby Run" over and over again when I was in Junior High school. I heard him preach at First Baptist Church in Clovis, New Mexico in 1972 (?) with "Dallas Holm and Praise" doing the music! "Well done faithful servant!"
I'm done for now...
